Want to stop blaming your body? In this vlog I’ll share common ways we create habits of body blaming, the impact blaming our bodies has, and why we blame our body in the first place. Body blame affects us all in different areas of our lives and contributes so much to our body image as well as body image issues such as disordered eating. There is a lot you can do to start to shift the blame away from your body and begin to observe and understand the thoughts that create the blame. This is thought work, and yes, it’s work! But let’s be honest, so is blaming your body, controlling your body, or avoiding your body.

So many of my students struggle with body image issues. They range from getting their "body back" after having a baby to eating disorder recovery to traumatic experiences that make the body feel like an unsafe place to be. It can be hard to understand why we have the ideas about our bodies that we do, after all so many of the thoughts we have about our bodies can be unconscious. In this video I’ll share the factors that make up our body image AND how to assess your own body image.

My passion and my yoga teaching is all about helping women move from feeling uncomfortable in their own skin to feeling more at home in and trusting of their bodies. We can become disconnected from our physical bodies for many different reasons, one of which is domestic violence.
It can be extremely difficult to feel safe in your own body after experiencing it as an unsafe place. It can also be difficult to feel safe anywhere, especially in a tech-filled world where information is so easily shared. Today I've partnered with Techwarn.com to share tools you can use to move towards feeling safe in your body and safe in the land of technology. Listening to your body. It's one of the cues or suggestions I often include in my yoga classes. It's important to understand your limits to prevent injury and to challenge yourself when you've got a little more to give, not mention rest when you're tired, eat when you're hungry, and so much more. It's also one of those things it's really easy to say, but not always easy to do.
Do you like writing lists?
I'm list kind of gal. If I don't write it down it's like it doesn't exist. It goes into the same abyss that single socks falls into, or the black hole is that is the "lost and found" at my girls' school. Gone forever, never to be seen again. My girls are list writers too. They write ghost finding lists, friend lists, and Christmas lists each year. |
